Who are we looking for?
If you are passionate about racial, social, or reproductive justice and have something to say about it, we want you to speak!

We welcome talks from first-time speakers, industry experts, and everyone in between. We especially welcome proposals from underrepresented groups. We specifically seek to lift up the voices of BIPOC, trans, and gender non conforming voices, while acknowledging a mix of roles and perspectives are all valuable to our attendees. Past speakers include but are not limited to: abortion providers and practical support, bail funds, birth workers, student groups, doulas, foster care workers, health care professionals, immigration assistance, legal fellows, lobbyists, researchers, scholars, and more.

What are we looking for?

The focus of Take Root is reproductive justice work in red voting states. We actively seek talks across  a wide range of related subjects, at various levels of expertise. Your talk doesn't have to be relevant to everyone, but if you want to connect with a specific audience please specify that clearly in your proposal.
Presentation formats

• Individual speakers
• Panel discussions w/ moderator
• Workshops

Session formats

• Live streamed sessions will be scheduled for 60 minutes.
• Pre-recorded sessions may submit sessions up to 45 minutes in length. These sessions will have 60 minute blocks in the program, and we encourage speakers who are pre-recording their talks to join the session during the conference to engage in the chat and answer questions if time permits.
• Sessions may be live streamed via Zoom interfacing, or pre-recorded with presenters hosting an optional live chat during their broadcast.

If selected to speak at Take Root 2021, you agree to meet all program-related deadlines for slides, handouts, etc. for the 2021 Virtual Conference, including but not limited to the following:

• Monday, August 16, 2021
  •  Call for proposals closes
• Monday, August 23, 2021
  • Selected speakers notified and sent speaker agreements
• Monday, August 30, 2021
  • Confirm your acceptance to participate in the Conference by returning speaker agreements
• Monday, September 6, 2021
  • Register for the Conference no later than
  • Share Draft slides with Speaker Liaison no later than
• Monday, September 13, 2021
  • Complete and submit final changes to title, description, learning objectives by
• Monday, September 20, 2021
  • Submit Final Slides and conduct final review with your Speaker Liaison by
• Monday, September 27, 2021
  • Attend one of the live speaker orientation sessions that will take place during the week of 
• October 15, 16, 17, 2021 Attend Take Root (unless you are recording your session, but know that we’ll miss you!)
